Hong Kong's Ascendancy
The University of Hong Kong has been crowned the best university in Asia, rising one position from last year. This achievement is a testament to the university's academic excellence and research prowess. Meanwhile, Peking University, previously the top-ranked institution, now takes the second spot, while Singapore's Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore share the joint-third position, showcasing the strong competition in the region.
India's Rising Star
India's academic prowess is on full display, with a remarkable 1,125% increase in representation in the QS Asia rankings since 2016. The country now boasts 294 ranked institutions, second only to China's 395. This surge in representation is driven by the National Education Policy and the growth of research capabilities, with seven Indian universities in the top 100, 20 in the top 200, and 66 in the top 500.
Research Excellence
India's research strengths are particularly notable, with the country leading Asia in research productivity. Five Indian universities are in the top 10 for the Papers per Faculty indicator, and 28 are in the top 50, outperforming China's count. The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology in West Bengal takes the top spot in Asia for this indicator. IIT Delhi, for the fifth consecutive year, remains India's highest-ranked institution, placing joint 59th.
Employer Reputation and Global Recognition
Indian universities are also making strides in employer reputation, with 36 institutions improving their scores. This includes significant gains by prestigious institutions like IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee.
